INNOVATION IN THE DECARBONISATION OF SHIPPING

Climate Change Ventures (CCV), the London-based integrated green financial services specialist and Greensee, the supply chain intelligence experts, are pleased to announce an exciting alliance bringing carbon trading to maritime operations. The 2 companies have signed a Collaboration Agreement aimed at the comprehensive decarbonisation of the global shipping sector.

Utilising their joint and complementary skills, they aim to develop and deploy solutions aligned with emerging international maritime carbon reduction strategies, which are targeted at achieving zero fuel lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, with interim goals of 30% reduction by 2030 and 80% by 2040 relative to 2008.

Greensee’s AI-driven platform optimizes maritime operations through real-time data analytics, enabling energy efficiency improvements, predictive maintenance, and route optimization to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.  Their approach supports R&D for zero and near-zero emission fuels like bio-fuel, green methanol, hydrogen and ammonia, while facilitating shore power adoption in ports to cut at-berth emissions. This aligns with the increasing focus on energy efficiency, port decarbonization and innovation, ensuring compliance with the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) and the International Maritime Operation’s (IMO) global fuel standards.

CCV brings expertise in carbon offset and compensation programs, designing financial mechanisms to support the strategies’ emissions pricing and green growth objectives. Their tailored carbon credit programs enable cost-effective compliance with the UK ETS and the IMO’s carbon pricing, including trading Remedial Units for non-compliant vessels and Surplus Units for low-emission ships.  CCV also channels proceeds from carbon markets into the UK SHORE program, funding clean maritime solutions and green corridors.

Together, this partnership will drive economic benefits, supporting 1,400–2,100 jobs and £130–180 million in annual GVA, while advancing the UK’s leadership in worldwide maritime decarbonization through innovation and sustainability.

Horacio Carvalho, CEO of CCV said:

“We are a team of carbon savvy professionals who identify, fund and develop projects that will have a lasting impact on the fate of our planet. Together with our partners Greensee we will bring innovation to carbon reduction and carbon trading in worldwide shipping operations using green technologies, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and making real environmental changes for the good of all humanity.”

CEO of Greensee said:

This partnership is about building the foundations for measurable impact. With our GLEC 3.1-accredited methodology and CCV’s expertise in carbon finance, we are equipping the maritime sector with the tools to turn emissions data into action. Together, we are enabling compliance, unlocking funding for cleaner operations, and supporting a decisive shift toward low-carbon shipping.”
